Throughout the twenty-one chapters of the book, Bridges uncovers the moral offences that seem to fly under the radar for most Christians: discontentment, unthankfulness, judgmentalism, sins of the tongue, and many more. <em>Respectable Sins<\/em> is a great book for small group discussion, as well as personal devotions.<\/p>\n<p>The book is both convic<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1270 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ridgefieldbaptist.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/9781600061400-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"9781600061400\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ridgefieldbaptist.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/9781600061400-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.ridgefieldbaptist.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/9781600061400.jpg 415w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/>ting and engaging. Consider, for example, his definition of ungodliness. As opposed to a virtual synonymy for unrighteousness or wickedness, ungodliness is \u201cliving one\u2019s everyday life with little or not thought of God, or of God\u2019s will, or of God\u2019s glory, or of one\u2019s dependence on God.\u201d (p. 35) In this sense, good people can be guilty of ungodliness.<\/p>\n<p>(Do you believe that competition is a sin? Hold your answer until you read chapter 18!)<\/p>\n<p>Bridges does make applications about how the gospel gives strength over respectable sins, but I would have liked to see a little bit more on this.
