| God, I Have a Few Questions… |

Week 1- If you are good, why is there so much suffering in the world? One of the most difficult things for any human being to wrestle with is the reality of human suffering. Many have challenged Christianity with the argument that, if there is suffering and evil in the world, then God is either unkind or not powerful. The truth is that not believing in Christianity makes dealing with suffering and evil even harder. Christianity offers the promise that one day suffering will end and evil be overcome. In this sermon we’ll see that God is both good and powerful and that he identifies with us in our suffering. Week 2- Do you really send people to Hell? One of the most terrifying thoughts to any human being is the idea of Hell. The thought of being engulfed in flames, tormented forever while a maniacal devil stands by is truly horrifying. Would God really send a person to such a place? Are we really that bad and is God really that mad? In this sermon we’ll take a look at what the Bible says about Hell. We’ll see the surprising truth—that the reality of Hell actually demonstrates the incredible love of God. Week 3- Is there really just one, true religion? In today’s culture, people value freedom and tolerance above all else. Absolute truth claims are looked down upon because they are seen as freedom-stifling. That a person would claim Christianity as the one, true religion is shocking and offensive to modern people. In this sermon, we’ll see that every religion makes exclusive truth claims, not just Christianity. We’ll look at the exclusiveness and inclusiveness of Jesus—that He is the only way to be reconciled to God, but all are freely welcome to Him. Week 4- Isn’t the Bible full of fairy tales? For many, the Bible is just another book of bed time stories and fairy tales. Some are silly. Some are suspenseful. Some are just plain confusing. But we can’t honestly take them literally, can we? Could it be possible that we’ve been reading the Bible with cultural blinders on? What if the Bible is true? In the final sermon of this series we’ll talk about the reliability and validity of the Christian Scriptures and how we can trust them as the authority in our lives. |
